Lincoln Nebraska - The City State Of History and Events

Lincoln is a city with a population of 280,364 located in Nebraska. It’s the City State capital of the state and covers approximately 93.46 square miles. It is considered the second most populated city in Nebraska and is ranked the 71st largest in the United States. The City State was founded in 1856 and at the time was called the village of Lancaster. It wasn’t until 1867 that the village of Lancaster became Nebraska’s state capital and was then renamed Lincoln. The City State capital building was constructed in 1932 and designed by Bertram G. Goodhue. The University of Nebraska is also located in Lincoln, Nebraska, with approximately 20,000 students attending each year. It was founded in 1867 and is considered the city’s third largest employer. The City State is also home to the University of Nebraska’s football team which is called the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

For visitors and locals that live in the area City State, Lincoln has many things for people to do. They take part in many different types of annual cultural events such as the Pinnacle Bank Arena and different types of musical events. The City State has a wide variety of parks and recreational activities. They currently have over 125 parks that are connected by a 133-mile system of trails. Many of the trails include walking and bicycling. The trail was built on a piece of railroad history. The abandoned Missouri Pacific Railroad corridor used to run through the field where the trail is now placed. They also have the Lincoln Children’s Zoo and the Veterans Memorial Garden.

The City State currently has three major hospitals that serve patients in the city. They are Bryan Health, CHI Health St. Elizabeth and Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital. Lincoln also has two specialty hospitals which are the Lincoln Surgical Hospital and the Nebraska Heart Institute. The City State also many different types of urgent care clinics within the region that are available.
