Radon Mitigation Awareness

Raising Radon Awareness

Radon is one of those things that we seldom think about, if ever. Unfortunately, radon is something that can no longer be avoided. If you own a house, are looking to buy one, or are currently renting your residence, it’s in your best interest to consider radon a natural health risk and get the facts straight. It's time we all take a step in the right direction and learn what we can do to protect ourselves and our family members from the dangers of radon gas.

Everyone is exposed to some air pollutants (like radon gas) on an everyday basis - in your home and in your place of business. There is even radon gas in the air we breathe outdoors, but in small enough doses as to leave minimal risk. That's right, the Environmental Protection Agency has stated that the average outdoor radon level is between 0.4pCi/L and 0.7pCi/L. The problem we face in our homes and at work is that exposure of elevated amounts of radon gas over a prolonged period of time can cause serious (and sometimes fatal) health risks, like cancer or lung health issues.

The US EPA (United States Environmental Protection Agency) has determined that 4.0 pCi/L (picocuries per liter of air) or greater is the remedial action level for your home or business, while the World Health Organization has set a level of 2.7 pCi/L or greater. That being said, it is a good idea to get your home tested for radon to see if you are at risk. If testing reveals elevated radon levels, you can hire a licensed SWAT radon mitigation specialist to help reduce those levels to a safer air quality level below 4.0pCi/L.

Not only is radon becoming more prevalent in the air we breathe but it is also becoming more of a concern in the water we consume as well. Water is another thing that we as humans obviously can't live without, so there is an increasing need for us to get both our water and air tested to make sure we are safe from this dangerous chemical. Not all radon mitigation companies can mitigate both water and air, but if you look hard enough you will find that there are a few that do.

As the largest and most experienced radon mitigation company in the country, SWAT Environmental can make it easy for consumers to have their mitigation needs taken care of by a certified professional. SWAT Environmental (Soil, Water and Air Technologies) can provide you radon test kits from a third party testing company for both air and water testing. The tests are administered by you, the home or business owner, and should be mailed back to the testing company in order to get your results. This is to prevent conflicts-of-interest between testing and mitigation and ensures your test results are fast and accurate.

We urge everyone to get informed about radon and the health risks associated with overexposure, and to take a proactive stance in the fight against radon gas. Keep your home or business safe from radon gas and ensure that you and your loved ones don't become another statistic from the overexposure of radon gas.
